About Benjamin

I started my language learning journey by teaching Spanish-speaking people in Texas on an LDS mission. From there I taught myself Portuguese because I found I loved learning languages. I went on to teach both Spanish and Portuguese in an immersion setting at the Provo Missionary Training Center. After a year and a half there, I taught Spanish classes at BYU. I completed a Portuguese minor at BYU as well.

Outside of my professional experience, I actively participate in the Latino community here in Provo. I love reading and now that my literary world is 3 languages bigger (I can read French, but not speak it well yet), I enjoy reading from several foreign authors. I have been involved as a volunteer Spanish youth leader for about 3 years. And I’m still a language learner: right now I am working on French and Greek! I understand the ups and downs of learning a new language, and I’m here to help fellow language learners. Learning a new language opens up the world and exciting new opportunities.

About the class

After 3 years of experience teaching Spanish and Portuguese to students just like you, I understand the common challenges that learners run into on their language learning journey. I'm here to help you reach your goals, either to excel in your class, pass the midterm, or to reach a personal goal.

What our lesson together might look like:

We will begin by evaluating your language level and your goals for our time together. From this initial conversation I can usually pinpoint important things we can work on. Then we will get working with exercises and activities to help you get there. Feel free to bring your class book/materials or homework to work on if you are in a class so we can help you get that A+.

Benjamin and I served a mission for our church together. He was hugely influential in teaching me Spanish. Not only was he a patient teacher, but he has a passion for learning that makes it easier to deal with the challenges of learning a language.
