About Maria
Hello! I'm Maria, a native European Portuguese speaker from Lisbon. I lived in Portugal for the first 17 years of my life, and my entire family is Portuguese, so I have a strong connection to the language and culture. I am currently studying Politics and International Relations at University College London (UCL) after completing my IGCSEs and the International Baccalaureate (IB) at an international school in Lisbon.
Languages have always played a central role in my life. Studying in both Portuguese and English has given me a unique perspective on language learning and communication across cultures. I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and helping them discover not only the Portuguese language but also the customs, history and everyday life in Portugal.
I am friendly, patient and enthusiastic, and I genuinely enjoy seeing my students gain confidence and achieve their goals. I am a native speaker of European Portuguese, born and raised in Portugal. My entire family is Portuguese, and I lived in Lisbon for the first 17 years of my life, giving me a deep understanding of the language, culture, and everyday expressions that native speakers actually use.
Having studied at an international school in Lisbon, where I completed my IGCSEs and the International Baccalaureate (IB), and now studying Politics and International Relations at University College London, I understand both the challenges of learning a new language and how to explain Portuguese clearly in English.
