About Amelia

Hi! I'm a student at McGill University and a native Mandarin Chinese speaker from Beijing, China. Having grown up speaking Mandarin and being fluent in English, I'm comfortable teaching Chinese to English speakers, even if you have no prior experience with the language!

I understand that learning a new language can feel intimidating, especially when it comes to pronunciation, tones, and Chinese characters. My goal is to create a friendly, patient, and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace.

I enjoy meeting new people and sharing my language and culture with others. Whether you're just starting out or looking to become more fluent, I'll do my best to make each lesson enjoyable, encouraging, and suited to your personal goals. I look forward to helping you on your Mandarin learning journey!

About the class

As a native Chinese speaker and student at McGill University, I offer personalized Mandarin lessons for English speakers of all levels, from complete beginners to more advanced learners.

My teaching approach is flexible and tailored to each student's goals, interests, and learning pace. I believe that learning a language should be engaging, practical, and enjoyable. I focus on building confidence through conversation, pronunciation practice, vocabulary, and grammar, while also introducing students to Chinese culture and everyday expressions.

A typical lesson will begin with a quick review of previous material, followed by new vocabulary or grammar concepts. We will then practice through conversations, exercises, and real-life scenarios to help you apply what you've learned.

As someone who grew up speaking Mandarin and is also fluent in English, I understand the challenges of learning and communicating in different languages. I can explain Chinese concepts clearly in English, making lessons accessible even to students with no prior knowledge of Mandarin.

Whether you're learning Chinese for school, travel, work, personal interest, or simply want to improve your conversational skills, I'm happy to help you reach your goals!
