I start my class with two questions that what are we studying and why we are studying? After making this clear, i teach basics of the exercise and then i teach How to derive formulas. I think if a student be too much perfect that he/she can create formulas. It means he/she is able to solve all the questions conceptually.

i teach maths both basic and logical methods. because in present scenario logical or tricky methods are more useful comparison to basic method. basic taking more time but in competition exam we have a few time for solving our problems.
