About Ray
We offer Krav Maga (Israeli Self -Defense) and Kali (a blade art from the Philippeans).
I especially enjoy working with beginner students and helping them achieve their goals in self defense. Watching peoples confidence and physical skills improve is inspiring.
Traveling to Israel on numerous occasions for training is a fringe benefit.
I started teaching police firearms and was a competitive combat shooter with a master classification. I found that self defense armed and unarmed was extremely challenging and therefore was drawn to it. I found that there were many instructors out there that really didn't teach a whole lot and relied on incorporating physical fitness in their training. I wanted to change that.
I have retired from over 35 years of law enforcement experience. Most of this time was in high crime areas. Most of this time was in an anti-terrorist capacity, traveling throughout the world. I have received training in most martial arts ranging such as: Taekwondo, Judo, Brazillian JuiJutsu, boxing, kickboxing, Kali and Krav Maga. I have had good instructors as well as not so good.

New students first come in to observe or take a FREE trial class. We speak with the new student to determine their goals and desires. New students will work with me, the owner as well as experienced students. We follow two important rules, slow is smooth , smooth is fast and teto learn, learn to teach.
We currently have students as young as 5 and as old as 76. We have students that have survived heart attacks cancer and amputations. No matter who you are, you can do this!
Find a school in which your goals match up with your instructor. Find out what the instructor's experience is. If competition is your goal, look for an instructor that has competed. Many times the owner of the school dose not teach or not regularly. Make sure the instructors at the school fulfill your expectations. Students should learn techniques slowly and gradually build up speed. Going too fast just covers up the mistakes and greatly increases the risk of injury.
