About the lesson
As someone awarded by IIT-M and IISc for his talents in communicating and excelling in science, my approach to teaching involves exploring science and math in as engaging a manner as possible! Please go through some of the reviews left by learners from all across the world below. It'll help you get a feel for how they believe the classes have shaped their views, interests, academic goals and careers. I promise you'll find it very eye-opening and enlightening!
We're all so different in so many unique ways, come to think of it. Even in the genres of books, shows and movies we like, we all have tastes and preferences. That's why it's so important that the way we learn and grow goes beyond the same old generic broad-spectrum educational treatment that most schools and coaching centres mete out to us. This diversity in character is precisely why the heart of my methodology lies in focusing my effort on just one or two learners instead of branching out and incorporating as many people and classes in my spare time as possible. This approach underscores and greatly emphasizes quality over quantity, allowing each lesson to be several times more fulfilling and fun.
Being extremely familiar with the teaching style, syllabuses and curricula in several countries, including the US, UK, EU, Australia, India and Singapore, I draw inspiration from my abundant experience and resources. As the reviews below stretching from across the globe will vouch for, my approach is quite different and more effective. I see each scientific and mathematical concept as a treasure trove of discoveries and applications. I try to rope in as many vivid examples, visualizations and animations (which I spend most of my time putting together) as I can. This framework helps evolve pre-existing perceptions of science and math, fuel curiosity and boost problem-solving skills. It was central to my success in clearing the IIT Entrance Examination, and I'd love to use it to help you scale new heights too!
I usually start with stories from various diverse areas at the heart of the scientific or mathematical concept we're looking to cover. These stem from history, economics, cutting-edge technologies and even captivating movies, games and shows. These discussions make each class engaging and much more involved for both sides. If the purpose of science is to explain how to universe works, there's no better way to teach it than by exploring how it manifests itself in real life and laying out the big picture. Demonstrating how the science and math taught in school can be put into action makes things more palatable and fun.
I then move through the various nuances of each topic with the help of thought experiments and the occasional joke or two to keep the atmosphere upbeat while being centred on learning each concept thoroughly inside-out. There's no compromise on academic rigour, and all aspects are extensively covered. Each class is finally topped off with carefully crafted problem-solving sessions at the end to drive each point discussed home. We prepare exhaustively for any future tests, exams and assignments that might be around the corner this way. This three-pronged approach helps bolster creativity, passion and academic performance.
What's equally important is that this also facilitates the building of a strong bond that goes both ways. This relationship is central to the learning process. It allows for honest and transparent discussions on complex problems or the need for extra support and helps us productively discuss any issues that might require more time and mentoring. Once I get a feel for where they shine, I can build on those strengths and interests to help them achieve whatever goal they've set their sights on. This conviction has been at the heart of what motivates me to prepare for hours to tailor each class into a complete and comprehensive learning experience. These efforts have, in turn, helped me support learners from several backgrounds and countries from all over the world, including the US, UK, EU, Australia, India, Singapore and more!
I genuinely want to help them achieve their full potential and be the best version of themselves. Please give me one chance and see how it goes. I PROMISE that I'll try my best to make sure you'll honestly enjoy the learning experience to every last minute! Please jog through the reviews below, as they should help put any doubts and apprehensions to rest. I'd love to help reel your dreams and aspirations back within your grasp.

About Surya
Hey there!
Glad to see you find your way here :) Thanks for taking the time to scroll through my profile! Here's a little sermon about me. If you like what you see, please feel free to get in touch with me as I'd love to lend a hand :)
As a true to the heart science enthusiast, my talents in communicating and excelling in science have won me several awards from prestigious institutes worldwide, including those from the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras (IIT-M) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). To top that off, I've had the privilege of sharing the stage with Nobel Prize winners and Fields Medalists and engaging in conversations with them on a wide variety of issues. While it's a long journey ahead, I aspire to motivate others the same way. To this end, I'm also working on collaborative research involving Pre-Main-Sequence Stellar Astronomy and Exoplanetary Sciences. As a researcher in one of Europe's most prestigious universities, I'm doing my best to keep the dream alive!
But like the former president of India, Dr Kalam, once told me, being an educator is something that honestly makes everything else look pale in comparison. For starters, I only focus on one or two learners. That way, the emphasis is uncompromisingly on quality. There's much more time to make each session interactive with animations, real-life examples, tons of concept-related stories and several exciting and challenging problems. I strive to deliver a comprehensive and all-around fun experience. I'm grateful to have helped underprivileged kids from all kinds of backdrops, which has only bolstered my extensive background in teaching.
One of my most exuberant attributes is communicating science and engaging everyone in a personalized manner by crafting stories that contain the subject's essence. I've found that this methodology of linking ideas and practical examples together allows me to guide them through the beauty of Science and Math while also improving their problem-solving abilities. This technique proved the cornerstone of my ultimately successful efforts to clear the IIT Entrance Examination. I've found that it's also remarkably successful in helping others achieve their goals.
If you could find the time to run through the reviews from learners spanning several fascinating places across the globe below, you'll love what you hear. I promise!
Having helped tons of learners from various backgrounds and corners of the world, including the US, UK, EU, Australia, India, Singapore and more, I'm sure that I'd be able to bring the best out of anyone who needs a hand! Please feel free to drop me just one message, and I promise I'll try my absolute best to make it worthwhile.
Thanks again for hearing me out! I genuinely look forward to hearing from you soon :)

Perfect! Easily connects with the student and able to convey the subject effectively
Perfect! THANKS SO MUCH! The class was so much fun! i really needed help before the exams and for once i actually enjoyed learning. i mean i go to Allen but honestly you cleared all of those doubts which nobody else could. i still remember how you explained surface tension and talked about metastable equilibrium. like blew my mind. honestlyin those classes I learnt more than two years in Allen. not only that I just enjoyed it so much. you're just the best. Thank you so much again!!!
- Surya's response : Oh come on Rucheera, I ain't all that great :D. Thanks a bunch for letting me know how much you love science right now, really keeps me going. I'm just glad I could help!
Perfect! As a parent i wanted someone to help my daughter with calculus. She was struggling with integration and i can surely say as a teacher myelf from experience that Surya is one of the best teachers I've ever met. really i admire how concerned, how cooperative and understanding he is. Whenever we were busy he was always okay with rescheduling and he never charged for the extra half an hour every now and then. And my daughter got outstanding results in all her tests. As someone who never used to study and hated math, he helped her discover and learn to do well in it. As a parent, he's really the best teacher I could hope for
- Surya's response : Thank you so much ma'am! It was honestly more her and less me, she always had it in her and I knew she was smart the moment I could see her face light up when I started explaining every little thing to her without leaving anything out. Just makes me happy that she enjoyed the sessions and could find it in her to love the subject and do well!
Perfect! Excellent sir. thanks for the entertaining and fun classes. i wasn't sure whether to do science after 10th standard but Surya opened a new world for me. one of the best teachers i couldve ever wished to have. makes me proud. Thanks a lot sir
- Surya's response : Don't mention Naman. I had a great time too! Just focus on keeping at it and working hard, gotta say you've got loads of potential, I'm just happy I did my bit bringing it out
Perfect! you're like an inspiration to me man! i mean how many people can teach you math with game references and pizza! its not even how fun it was, they show in the results. I didnt think we were going fast enough initially but now ive just got 77/80 in my math exam! loved the classes!
- Surya's response : Thanks! Can't beat the feeling of having someone enjoy your work! (Guess Pizza always does the trick)
Perfect! I loved the class! English isn't my native language but god I understood everything. It was so much fun, really looking forward to our next session. I love how jokes and facts just make the classes so good :) Thanks
- Surya's response : Cheers Mariana! Can't say I could've have had a better time. Just love the way you kept guessing what comes next, always fun to have someone figuring things out in advance
Perfect! THE BEST LEARNING EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD HANDS DOWN! So I needed some help in 11th physics and maths and he's just AMAZING. He connected what I was learning to comic books, real life stories and amazing space stuff that got me hooked. I mean I spent two hours with him and it was like listening to a story :D. It wasn'tj just simple it was really rigorous cause I covered and lot and now I understand it! I had so many problems struggling to remember what I read but the way he teaches it gets printed in your brain. Really recommend him for everyone and anyone who needs a great teacher. Thanks a lot Surya :)
- Surya's response : Had a great time with you too Rishabh! Always a treat to see a student who genuinely likes all the cool science I talk about!

Surya is just such an inspiration! he's honestly the best of teachers out there cause he truly brings the best out of you!! I loved the physics sessions we had the most cause he's just brimming with passion and that love for the subjects rubs off on you too xD! It was just so much fun the classes we had cause his approach to education is just so unique in that he tries making the all those abstract concepts so relatable to real life with jokes and some great problems and questions for you to ponder about! I just loved every class we had and I can personally vouch for just how amazing of a teacher he is!!!
Surya was just an amazing educator but what really got to me was how great a storyteller he was! God I honestly loved the classes so much! He used to roll out all these difficult concepts in such a brilliant manner with a backstory to pique your interest it was just great. studying was never really easy for me with ADHD but with Surya it was more of a conversation, like an exploration and it was just really nice. you truly need an amazing teaher to do that!
Surya is just perfect, he's like so understanding! I was feeling really low at one point and Surya never hesistated to lend a hand, i just loved conversing with him, so he caters his style of teaching exactly according to what you'd like! What makes me smile is how he used to bring in a new concept, you could never guess what he's talking about but it generates so much interest and exuberance in you! And we had problem solving sessions which were so useful in arming me for the SATs! He's just one of the very best out there! Good luck!!!
Surya was mindblowing!!! I sometimes even miss those lessons! um what I liked the most about surya is how he used to keep you guessing, i think that's something that says a LOT about a teacher, surya doesn't give you the answer but brings you to it and that literally helped so much! like so many times where i was stuck i used to remember the questions he used to ask me to throw me off balance and i kinda worked my way again and that is just amazing! thanks a bunch Surya!
Surya was just great! Loved the classes!!!
Surya is just incredible! So much knowledge in like one dude LOL! I wasn't really a big fan of math but he knows exactly how to lay it out, all those parts which didn't really make sense like even the most simplest stuff like the factorial of zerp and everything he literally explained it all, but the best part is you dont even realise youre doing math cause its like a whole story with him bringing him concepts from everywhere so it really feels like you're learning something new. that's legit how i wish they taught in school LOL. surya you're fantanstic!!
I had such a blast!!! Loved every class, so i needed help with some algebra and some AP Physics and it was so fun I aced every one of my tests and he even helped me with the applications :) he's the best!
Trust me when I say Surya is THE BEST pal and teacher Ive come across, he's literally so good! he ropes in a story to explain whats going on and he talks about cutting edge research out there which is like so cool. If you truly want studying to be super fun and informative just talk to him once, you'll love it! Thanks again mate!
My teacher introduced me to Surya and believe me hes the best teacher Ive had. He has now become a mentor and friend of mine. Really hes just my inspiration at this point. To be that knowledgable, funny and great with teaching is just an amazing skill only he has. I dont even like tuitions but hes really the best even including the teacher who introduced me to him
As a parent I have to say Surya was a great teacher. My son was struggling with physics and had even fought me over tuitions. Surya was recommended to me by a teacher in my sons school who was his mother and he really was worth it. I could see Raghav starting to enjoy the classes, he spent time with Surya talking about math and physics but he really seemed to be interested in what he had to say. Surya was always punctual and always on time and helped my son secure 92% in his tenth grade CBSE board exams.
He's the BEST TEACHER you couldve asked for really. Hes always on time, and he comes prepared. Its like theres no topic in Physics that he doesnt know but the best part is that he makes you feel like you know it too, if youre with him its like a virus you become interested in physics too. I promise you hes one teacher you couldnt regret anything about, like so good!
If you think you dislike physics and math or your bad it it just give Surya a chance. He was a friend of mine from sixth grade and I can promise you that theres no better teacher than him anywhere in Bangalore! Like honestly just give him one chance, you can see the love he has for maths and physics. Hes really one of the best teacher and friend you could ever ask for.
he really is the best teacher ive ever enountered :) I can tell you I havent met anyone as passionate as he is for physics and math he truly loves the subject. I never really liked math and my previous tutor didnt think id be able to do well at all but with his help im now pursuing CSE engineering at BMS! I really hope you go for him hes such a nice guy :)
He's the VERY BEST teacher I've ever had! In fact, I didnt even know he was on SuperProf or else I wouldve recommended him even earlier. I had always HATED math and never scored well in it but with Surya everything changed. He has a story for each topic and the way he talks to you is just amazing he really motivates you to do better and also inspires you to like math. I couldnt recommened a better teacher for anyone!!!

What motivates you to teach & why?
The answer's buried right there in the question - Why? Let me explain - Spare a minute to look at the world around you - take that clock out there clinging onto the wall, or those little glowing dots that poke holes through the darkness of the night sky, or those bolts of lightning that shoot across the skies. It's a fair bet that you've probably seen them all at some point in your life but shrugged it away and got on with the better things in life. Teaching science and mathematics is a lot like poetry, it's about drawing inspiration for the universe and communicating the beauty behind what you see. The simple clock that's been perched against that very same wall for so many years now houses within it a quartz crystal that shivers whenever jolted by electricity, the very same shiver that spell's out each tick you hear. That burst of lightning that slices the night sky in two is just a flash of electrical energy escaping it's imprisonment. Meet the photon - Not just any photon - Your photon. What is a photon? The fundamental unit of light, a submicroscopic jot of pure energy. Nothing appears to distinguish your photon from the trillions of others that pour out of the surface of the distant star. All are forged in the star’s fiery core. All have survived the turbulent, outbound journey from the star's beating heart to outer space. In fact, only one thing sets your photon apart from the others streaking across space and time. This photon is destined to enter your eye. This photon belongs to you. After centuries in the voids of interstellar space, it plunges into the Earth’s atmosphere, fortuitously avoiding annihilation by air molecules and dusty pollutants. Meanwhile, darkness has fallen on your side of the Earth. Strolling underneath the night sky, you look up. The photon enters your eye, strikes your retina, and turns over its luminous energy to the biochemical process we call “sight.” Your photon, plus countless others that precede and trail it, paint in your consciousness the impression of a luminous speck in the heavens. On this clear, dark night, thousands of such specks are visible, altogether a twinkling stellar tapestry arching high above your head. This poetry of the natural world is what I love to communicate.
02
When did you start developing an interest in your subject area?
Well science has always fascinated me since I was a kid, I loved to read and I used to fill myself up with amazing facts about the world but I guess I really had my calling around 11th grade. It's when science and mathematics really started to get intense and understanding how everything fit together to dictate the laws of the universe really blew my mind.
03
If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?
Can't narrow it down to one but it's Richard Feynman, Newton, Galois, Mozart, Einstein, Hans Zimmer, Carl Sagan and Ramanujan vying for first place. Well I guess you can break geniuses down to two types - those who're amazing but leave you with space to wonder if you could've made it too if you'd just been focused enough to see yourself through. The other's are just so insanely creative you struggle to comprehend how they could've done what they did, and that's where, I believe, true genius lies. Newton never had a father in his life and had to see his mother walk out soon after he was born and come back with another family. Ramanujan's life was an intricate compounding of depression and pure genius. While the fun and challenge in physics lies in its complexity, nobody could break everything down like Feynman, Einstein and Sagan, like the quote goes - If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't really understand it yourself!
04
What is the biggest obstacle you had to overcome in mastering your craft?
When you're into science full time you've really gotta balance things out between your love to read and debate, play that one game you've been wanting to for so long, your research and your studies. Time management is something that's been really tough to master. I guess the biggest obstacle though has been in having the guts to follow my passion and doing my best to make myself better each step of the way!
05
In your opinion, what makes someone excel in your subject area?
I guess there's no clear cut pathway to excellence and as the Nobel Prize winner Sir Anthony Leggett once told me, serendipity is always a factor! Ultimately it comes down to what are you looking for. If good grades motivate you the most then that's nifty, use that to propel yourself forward. But if you truly want to uncover the inner working of the physical universe, I guess it comes down to creativity, curiosity and commitment. The important thing is to not stop questioning - curiosity has its very own reason for existing. It's not just the questions, it's about working hard enough to find those answers out too. As Carl Sagan puts it - Exploration is in human nature. We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still. We are ready at last to set sail for the stars. You've just gotta ask yourself if you're ready to take that leap of faith!
06
What would you say to a student who says, "This is too difficult, I give up!"?
You've gotta love physics, the yearn to explore is encoded within your cells. If you hate it, it is only because you had a bad teacher. Yeah it sure gets tough sometimes, but that's you just getting started. You're better than that. Einstein failed his college entrance exam the first time around, They told Faraday he was too stupid to pronounce words let alone think up the laws of electricity that makes that smartphone nestling on your bed a possibility. It's okay, I've scored pretty darn bad too sometimes and I haven't been my best all the time, but there's a way forward. Despite all the darkness, life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, notice those pretty flowers, and those smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams!
07
How does someone become a Super Prof?
You don't. It's really just about trying to find a good laugh or two in your classes while you try to discover science yourself - It's about having fun and finding something nice to learn each time around. It's not about being a Super Prof, it's about being that one friend you talk to right before the exams cause you know you'll just adsorb everything he say's!
