About Martin
My name is Marty Moushey, or Coach M as my students like to call me. I’ve been a middle school math teacher for over 20 years. I’ve taught in every possible kind of setting there is. I’ve taught in public suburban schools, public inner-city schools, charter schools, Montessori schools, and even a Jewish orthodox school. I’ve seen it all and I know what middle school students need to succeed in math. I love teaching math, and I celebrate my students who experience wins, no matter how big or small.

I’m Coach M and I train my students like I train athletes. I will assess where the student is at, identify the problem, plan a solution, and proceed with implementing strategies. At the same time, just like athletes, we are practicing the skills that are needed every single day. These are the things that should be automatic in middle school, but are not. This may include simple, single-digit, math facts, specific rules used in math, and knowing the properties of math. Nine times out of 10, students who are lacking in fundamentals are too burned out to proceed to attack complex problems. I will take away that deficit and we will sharpen the fundamental skills, at the same time, teaching students strategies to break down complex tasks into simpler ones, and they might even have fun doing it!
