About Aaron
I am a German and Spanish student at the University of Oxford. I started learning Spanish right at the start of secondary school before beginning to learn German a year later. However, my background in Chinese comes from growing up as a bilingual; I spoke the language with my parents from a young age. This resulted in me sitting the GCSE Chinese exam and achieving a 9. At first, my passion for languages started as a desire to speak to more people and experience different cultures in different countries. However, my motivations changed as I continued my studies; I fell in love with languages as an academic subject, studying culture, history, politics, and, my favourite topic, literature.
As a result, I decided to study at Oxford because of how literature-based the modern languages course there was. Having already read various texts in other languages, my fluency has developed so much.
I have held German revision sessions in a classroom setting and previously worked with young people as a Sports Leader and a University Modern Languages Ambassador. I believe that the best way to learn a language is through constant exposure and immersion in the language that you want to learn while ensuring that the complexity level isn't so high that the student can't understand anything, but not so low that they aren't being challenged. However, I also believe that sessions should be adapted to address the students' needs and topics they struggle with, building on the previous sessions.

As a tutor, I recognise that the biggest advantage of having one is the student having their undivided attention. My priority is therefore to ensure that all our sessions are adapted to address the topic areas that the student struggles with the most, be it cultural topics or grammar topics.
I typically tutor GCSE and A-level students but I'm more than happy to tutor Chinese to those who simply wish to learn it. Furthermore, as an Oxford student, I am also prepared to help students prepare for the Oxford admissions process for Modern Languages, be it through preparing them for the MLAT or reviewing their personal statements. The typical length of my lessons is either 1 or 2 hours.
