Calculus teaching in my studio begins with the conceptual meaning of a limit and derivative rather than the mechanical differentiation rules, because students who understand the mathematical ideas behind the procedures maintain their skills across novel problem types far more reliably than those who only remember rules. My statistics teaching consistently addresses the distinction between descriptive and inferential statistics and the logical relationship between probability, sampling, and inference, because most student confusion about statistical tests stems from failing to understand what question each test is answering. Proof is introduced systematically at A-Level and above because the ability to construct mathematical arguments develops the logical precision that the most demanding examination questions reward.
