About Hawkins
I am native Chinese speaker who always achieved distinction for Chinese subject when studying in China.
Studying abroad has helped me gain fluency and confidence in English.
Back in China, I had experience of teaching Chinese students English as a tutor. Furthermore, I used to be a voice actor, which helped me gain more understanding of spoken Chinese and methods of practicing standard Mandarin.
I love writing. I started to write Chinese poems at the age of 7. I have read a lot of Chinese literature books, which has greatly equipped me with knowledge and skills. I have published some of my articles on various platforms.
I also study translation on my own and find some part-time translation jobs from time to time. This has taught me to understand the difference between Chinese and English, and more importantly, the difference between Chinese and English way of thinking. Hence, I can make my teaching more targeted towards non-native speakers especially English speakers.
Learning languages is one of my passions and I know that picking up a new language is not an easy task, but with appropriate approach and perseverance, you'll succeed in the end! Enjoy your learning!

My teaching methods depend on the ability and preference of my students. Usually, I prefer giving a more content-heavy lesson so as to achieve efficiency.
Understanding is of great importance. Generally for language learning, I do not expect one to fully understand in class. About half of the content should be absorbed in class and some of the content should be understood after class.
I can teach beginners, intermediates. I can teach reading skills, writing skills and spoken Chinese.
With my experience in Chinese dubbing, I can teach you how to speak standard Mandarin by sharing with you the methods that I use for practicing dubbing and broadcasting.
As a literature-lover and writer who has published some articles, I will be more than willing to share with you about Chinese literature and Chinese culture.
