About Wen Kang
Hi, I'm Wen. I'm an NUS undergraduate available to tutor O-Level Math and O-Level / A-Level Chinese and Higher Chinese.
I'm a local student who went through the same Chinese curriculum my students are sitting, so I know that feeling of staring at the paper with your mind completely blank, and how hard it is to say what you mean in Mandarin when the words won't come. I believe in consistency. It's how I'm teaching myself Japanese right now, a little every day. Applied to Chinese, that means building a bank of phrases you can actually reach for, and knowing what the marker is rewarding rather than guessing.

My vision for teaching is practicing consistently in a targeted way so that my students do not feel lost.
Lessons run as a 2-hour teaching session plus a 1-hour clinic each week. Every week opens with a small set of 好词好句 grouped by essay theme. Over a term this builds a bank they can actually reach for under exam pressure.
The 2-hour session focuses on writing and speaking: planning and drafting 作文 and 实用文, and structured practice for the oral. For Paper 2 I work through the reasoning with the student and then set a passage as homework rather than have them sit and write in front of me.
The clinic reviews that homework, quizzes the week's phrases, and spends the remaining time on conversation practice. Written work is marked and returned with comments before the next lesson.
I have personally taken the Higher Chinese path and I believe in structured and consistent learning as I learn new languages in uni.
