About Amelia
Experienced Secondary Mathematics educator with 29 years of teaching and tutoring. I have taught in Public Schools, and a Charter School. I have tutored privately and with a tutoring center. I have taught and/or tutored students ranging from grades 6 through 12. I’ve taught several different mathematics courses, including Algebra, Geometry, Math 1, 2, 3, and 4, and Precalculus. In my career, I used the following teaching, learning, and/or assessment platforms: Canvas LMS, iReady, iXL, EdPuzzle, DeltaMath, Mastery Connect, ALEKS and Quizizz. I used Blooket and Kahoot for a fun way to review lesson content.
I have mentored new teachers, led Professional Learning Communities, been Mathematics Department Chair, and supported IEP/504 accommodations. I designed engaging lessons, providing targeted remediation and enrichment, and building strong relationships with students and families.
I have had extensive professional development in instructional strategies, curriculum design, assessment tools, technology integration, and student engagement. I hold a B.A. in Mathematics with Secondary Certification, and have been a member of NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics), NCCTM (North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics), NCAE (North Carolina Association of Educators), MAA (Mathematics Association of America), and ASCD, (Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development).

I teach using a structured, student-centered approach that helps learners feel grounded and confident. A typical lesson begins with a review of a key prerequisite concept to ensure a strong foundation. From there, I introduce the day’s lesson with clear, guided instruction, followed by practice opportunities where I check for understanding and adjust the pace or method as needed.
What sets me apart is the depth of insight that comes from 29+ years of teaching experience. I’ve learned to recognize when a student needs a different explanation, a new strategy, or additional reinforcement. I am patient, flexible, and skilled at shifting direction when a learner benefits from an alternative method or has a unique learning style.
My lessons are designed for middle and high school students who want to strengthen their math skills, deepen conceptual understanding, and build lasting confidence in mathematics.
