About Vishnu
My name is Vishnu, and I am a PhD researcher at IIT Bombay. My research is on hydrogen storage using metal hydrides. Most of my working day goes into building computer simulations of hydrogen storage reactors and optimizing their design. All of this runs on the mathematics I teach: differential equations, linear algebra, and numerical methods are tools I use every day, which is why I can show you where a topic actually gets used instead of only how to pass an exam on it.
Alongside my research, I work as a teaching assistant for a mathematics course in my department and for an NPTEL course on hydrogen energy, where I prepare the weekly assignments and exam papers. Setting questions has taught me what examiners look for and which mistakes cost students the most marks.
I started teaching because I remember how it felt to be stuck on a topic that everyone else seemed to understand. Usually the problem was not ability. Nobody had explained the idea clearly. I enjoy being the person who does that, and I find that teaching a concept well also sharpens my own understanding of it.
I am patient, I explain things more than once if needed, and you will never be made to feel bad for asking a basic question.

I teach mathematics in a fixed order: first the idea, then the method, then the exam question. I am a PhD researcher at IIT Bombay and a teaching assistant for an undergraduate mathematics course, so I see every week where students get stuck and why.
A typical session goes like this. We start with whatever you found difficult since the last class. Then I explain the new topic through a worked example, often taken from a physical or engineering problem, so the formula has a meaning you can hold on to. After that you solve problems while I follow your working. Most mistakes happen in the steps, and I would rather catch them there than at the final answer. We end with a few practice questions for you to try on your own before the next class.
The pace depends on you. If your basics need repair before we move forward, we fix them first. If you have an exam coming, we work through past papers and concentrate on the question types that keep coming back.
These classes are for undergraduate engineering and science students (calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, numerical methods) and for students in classes 11 and 12 who want a stronger foundation, although I don't mind teaching 9th and 10th also. Classes can be in English or Hindi (I'm comfortable in Malayalam and Tamil as well), online or in person as per your preference.
