About Tamara
I have been dancing for many years prior to choosing this as my career and deciding to go into full-time training. During those years, the studio was a space where I could distance myself from my everyday worries and focus on honing and perfecting something that I was good at. Dancing was always a welcome break from my normal life, not just because of the actual act of dancing, but also because my teachers made the schools that I studied in such a warm and positive place to express myself in. I believe that although the motivation and passion of the student is very important when learning something that's so physically demanding and generally time-consuming, having the right teacher who's willing to consider your needs and to cultivate your strengths as well as to be kind and patient with your weaknesses is essential. I don't think that I would have chosen this career had I not had many teachers that put in that kind of time and effort with me, and I wish to continue their legacy by cultivating this approach with my students. I think also all too often dance places enormous amounts of pressure on students, whether that's to have an 'ideal' body type, be under a certain age, be at a specific technical level or to be accepted into and attend certain schools. Although I believe that there is merit to working towards specific goals, I want to encourage my students to set them for themselves, and my lessons should help students to find fulfilment in their own work regardless of other people's expectations. I believe that this is a skill that is transferable to all other parts of life, whether the student decides to take their dance education further or not.

Lessons are tailored to the needs of the student, whether that's preparation for a performance or exam, increasing flexibility and strength, improving technique or focusing on the more creative side of dance and learning how to improvise and choreograph. I've been in full-time dance training for 5 years, and have trained at both a pre-professional ballet school and contemporary dance school. I received a First for my undergraduate degree in Contemporary Dance, and am now working as a dancer while additionally tutoring students. I'm happy to teach anyone who is willing to learn, regardless of age or experience. Also, whether it's for personal enjoyment or the student is striving for a specific achievement, both are valid reasons for wanting to learn to dance. Lesson length can also be adjusted based on the needs of the individual, though longer lessons would be better for safer practice as they would allow for a warm-up and cool-down portion in addition to the learning. Although it would be possible for me to teach that to the student and then they could practise that themselves before and after the lesson.
