About Denise
I have been a Special Education Teacher for more than 10 years. I began teaching after both of my children struggled with academics in elementary school. I know how it feels to want the best for your children and I help them believe in themselves, find strategies to fill in those areas of growth and build on their natural strengths. I have a background in writing with a BA in journalism, an M. Ed. with an emphasis in Special Education and an MA. Ed. in Educational Technology. I love when a scholar makes a connection and feels empowered about learning. Truly it is a gift when you see a student in a productive struggle, persevere and then find themselves on the other side feeling good about themselves and their abilities. Having a ̈Growth Mind Set, ̈ is an important quality for success. Every person wants to feel good about themselves and young people are no different, but we all know that when things are hard it is easy to give up. My first meeting with a new student is designed to get a snap shot of their academic strengths and areas of need. I also like to get to know a little bit about my students other than academics, their preferences, their likes and their dislikes, to create a curriculum that is fun, exciting, and meaningful! I believe that learning should be fun and when it's fun and meaningful, students grow by leaps and bounds!

Mrs. Gorelick did a great job of tutoring my son with special needs. She is very patient and she showed my wife and I that she actually cared for my sons needs and developement! I highly recommend her as a tutor!! My son loved her teachings and still ask about her on a regular basis!!
Ms. Gorelick worked with my son for 5 years beginning in the 1st grade. She was supportive and kind and still held him accountable with love. She was not only supportive with him, but with my husband and I also. He is now working at grade level and doing wonderfully. Her exceptional ability to work and communicate with my son was and is invaluable. The way she connected with him and the rapport she established was amazing and it truly helped him learn and grow. They both had mutual trust and respect. I love how she understands that every child is so different and looks for ways to help meet them where they are at. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Las Vegas lost a great teacher and California is lucky to have her.
