About Harriet
I specialise in helping students to improve their reading, writing and exam technique. I am passionate about literature and bringing texts to life for my students. Whether you want to focus on improving your academic essays, experimenting with creative writing, or need support with a dissertation project, I can help you! Some of my favourite writers are Virginia Woolf, Thomas Hardy, Daphne du Maurier, Charles Dickens, and Jane Austen. I teach across a wide-range of authors, genres, theories and periods.

I pride myself on my communication skills and enjoy bringing literary texts to life for my students. I’ll help you to develop your critical thinking skills, become a more confident writer and a more attentive reader. Whether you want to improve your essay writing or develop a convincing argument, I can help you to achieve your goals. You can expect our lessons to involve in-depth discussion, engaging activities and tasks designed to get you thinking, as well as longer reading and writing exercises to complete both during our sessions and for homework. I usually offer 1-hour classes and can tailor my approach to suit your needs. I have a PhD in English Literature and have taught university students since 2019. From 2019-2022, I taught students on the English BA at King's College London and in state schools as part of The Brilliant Club's Scholars Programme. I have recently taught literature and academic writing to undergraduate students at the University of New Haven in London, and am a guest convenor on Carleton College’s Urban Field Studies course as part of their Living London programme. I have a range of teaching and tutoring experience including: - Tutoring Primary and Secondary English - Improving GCSE results by 3 grades between mock and final exam - Teaching KS3 and GCSE English at a secondary school - Delivering seminars for university students
