About Kelvin
I’m a current Economics student at the University of Nottingham, one of the UK’s top universities, and I’m planning to pursue a Master’s in Finance. But my journey with learning, especially maths, hasn’t always been easy. When I started secondary school, I was placed in the lowest set for maths in Year 7. That early setback really affected my confidence and made me question my ability to learn. Over time, I realised that it wasn’t about being “bad at maths”; I just processed information differently from how it was being taught in class. Once I discovered how to learn in a way that worked for me, everything changed. I started making real progress, eventually achieving Grade 7s and above across my GCSEs, including a Grade 8 in maths. I then went on to complete A-Level Mathematics and now study a degree that includes demanding quantitative modules like econometrics. That experience taught me something powerful: the way we’re taught matters just as much as what we’re taught. This is what inspires me to tutor. I know what it’s like to struggle, to feel stuck, and to think you’re not a “maths person.” But I also know how transformative it can be when someone explains things in a way that clicks. I’ve been tutoring my sibling through their GCSEs, and I love helping students discover their own learning style and build confidence step by step.
