About Angelo

I have always been fascinated by how the world works through the lens of science. After graduating with top honors in high school, I moved on to earn my degree in Mathematics from the University of Federico II in Naples. For the past five years, I have shared this passion with students across various online platforms, helping them see the beauty in numbers and logic. I believe that learning is a lifelong adventure, and I am constantly pushing myself to stay at the forefront of my field.

My methodology focuses on deep reasoning and conceptual understanding rather than blind memorization. I aim to turn students into better problem-solvers by breaking down the "why" behind every formula and theorem. My goal is to make complex topics feel intuitive. You'll feel like you could have derived the formulas yourself!

Core topics I cover include, but are not limited to:

School Level: GCSEs, A-Level Maths, Physics, and Further Maths.

University Level: Calculus (Single & Multivariable), Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra, and Linear Algebra.

Specialized Topics: Limits, Conic sections/Quadrics, Affine Geometry, and Numerical Analysis (with Matlab).

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in maths and science started very early. As a kid I used to take apart my toys—often completely destroying them—just to understand what was inside and how they worked. That curiosity never really went away. In college, that same desire to understand why things work the way they do gradually led me closer to philosophy as well. To me, philosophy is in many ways the mother of all sciences, because it pushes you to question assumptions and look for deeper explanations.

Private tutoring came later, quite naturally. I realized I enjoyed helping other people reach those “aha” moments that made me fall in love with these subjects in the first place.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach both maths and physics, and recently I’ve been working a lot with A-level students, although I teach at different levels. What I really enjoy is exploring topics in depth—when you have the time to go beyond the surface and understand where ideas come from and why they work.

I think that almost every concept becomes fascinating when you dig into it enough. What I enjoy less is memorizing formulas or algorithms without understanding their origin. Sometimes it’s unavoidable when time is limited, but ideally I like students to see the logic behind the tools they’re using. Once that happens, the subject becomes much more engaging and much easier to remember.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, absolutely. My high school maths and science teacher had a huge influence on me. Aside from being great at creating fun and engaging lessons, he was excellent at nurturing curiosity. One thing he repeated often was that if you want to be good at science, you have to keep asking yourself “why?”

That idea really stuck with me. It changed the way I approached studying and learning in general, and it’s something I try to pass on to my students as well.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A strong knowledge of the subject is essential. Not just the specific topic you’re teaching at the moment, but the broader structure behind it. In my opinion, a tutor should understand far more than what they’re explaining in a particular lesson.

I remember helping a friend’s daughter who was in 8th grade. At one point we were talking about sets of numbers and she asked: “Is the natural number 1 the same as the real number 1?” It sounds simple, but answering it properly touches on set theory and the foundations of mathematics—topics you usually encounter at university.

Moments like that show why depth of knowledge matters. But knowledge alone isn’t enough. Empathy is just as important. A good tutor remembers how difficult these ideas felt when learning them for the first time. Being patient, clear, and able to create a relaxed atmosphere makes a huge difference for students.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One thing I always remember from school is how a single question can completely change the direction of a lesson. Sometimes the most interesting discussions start from something that seems simple at first.

I recall a class where a basic problem led to a long conversation about what numbers actually are and how mathematicians define them. It made me realize that mathematics isn’t just about solving exercises—it’s about understanding ideas at a deeper level. That experience strongly shaped how I approach teaching today: good questions are often more valuable than quick answers.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Studying maths and science is never effortless, and that’s part of what makes it rewarding. Every time you encounter a new concept, you have to stretch your intuition and sometimes rethink things you thought you understood.

Even now, learning something new can be challenging. But that challenge is exactly what keeps the subject interesting. It’s a continuous process of refining your understanding and seeing connections you hadn’t noticed before.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

One thing I’m particularly passionate about is the intersection between mathematics, science, and philosophy. I love exploring the deeper questions behind the formulas: Why do these structures appear in nature? What do mathematical objects really represent? How do abstract ideas end up describing the physical world so accurately?

Discussing these connections often makes students see the subject from a completely different perspective. Maths and physics stop being just school subjects and start feeling like part of a much bigger intellectual adventure.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I think one of my strengths is that I’m a very empathetic and patient person. I tend to be calm, and I speak in a way that helps create a comfortable learning environment. That atmosphere can make a big difference when someone is struggling with a difficult concept.

At the same time, my academic background allows me to go deeper than the surface of the material. Even when we’re working on simpler topics, I can connect them to larger ideas, give intuitive explanations, or share interesting insights that make the subject more engaging.

Of course, every student is different, and the goal is always to adapt the approach to what works best for them.
