About Kristel

I have been tutoring German, English and singing for 3 years now, and I love it. I particularly enjoy 1-to-1 lessons because it allows me to personalise a lesson plan for you, which promotes faster learning. Passing on knowledge to others and seeing them grow encourages me and it also improves my own knowledge - students don’t often ask me questions I can’t answer, but I get very excited when they do.

About the class

I graduated from the University of St Andrews with an MA (Hons) German and Russian with a Distinction in Spoken German in 2019 and am now pursuing a career as a professional opera singer, studying at the David Seligman Opera School at the RWCMD in Cardiff. I'm currently working online for a language school in Switzerland where I prepare students for language exams for visa purposes as well as professionals who need to improve their language skills for work reasons. I teach general English as well as business English for non-native speakers.
Being a fluent but non-native speaker of English and being trilingual, I understand the grammar of English thoroughly and I know what difficulties foreign learners face. Knowing the grammar of multiple languages, I have helped native speakers not only of the languages I speak, but also native speakers of for example French and Polish - with my extensive knowledge of linguistics and grammar I can easily acquaint myself with your native language too.

Having worked with Kristel for almost 8 years, I can assure you you won't regret choosing her as a tutor: Not only are her language skills brilliant, but she is also an outgoing and approachable person, always happy to help others and share her knowledge with them. Kristel always spoke very fondly of her time as a substitute teacher at a local school and it is clear to me that she enjoys teaching.

Kristel is a knowledgeable, patient, and affable tutor who on multiple occasions has proof-read my essays, improving both my language skills and the clarity of my writing style. She is a hard-working individual who can express and explain things in a simple yet comprehensive manner while at the same time making the learning experience engaging and fun. The combination of Kristel's academic and practical experience of German (from her year abroad in Vienna) makes her a valuable and very helpful tutor.

Kristel was a top German student at her International Baccalaureate Diploma and since pursued the language at University. She's very passionate about languages and about teaching them and I'm confident she'd be a great tutor for any learner from beginner through very advanced levels. (I've done courses myself in German up to B2/C1 level).
