About Jessica
Hey there, I'm Jess. It's so nice to meet you! I was born in Oahu, Hawaii and spent the first 18 years of my life there. Yes, I do know how to surf, and I do miss the beaches! I'm currently studying Psychology and obtaining a minor in Mathematics from Rice University in Houston, Texas, and I will be graduating in the spring of 2026 (quite soon!). My current dream is to move to France with my boyfriend and my cat Monkey after graduation. I would love to be a tutor because I have always had a passion for teaching and inspiring others to enjoy the art of math. As a Teaching Fellow at Breakthrough Houston during the summer of 2025, I truly found my passion for teaching and inspiring the next generation of leaders!

I'm most known for my engaging and effective lessons. My teaching philosophy is that students should be an active part of their learning process. Students learn best by participating in their learning, not simply listening to a teacher ramble on! A typical lesson plan would include an introductory problem to get started, then a couple practice problems where the student slowly becomes more independent in solving them. Ideally, after 3 practice problems, the student should have learned the skill. My lessons are for students needing extra help in their schooling, or for students who want to get ahead!
