About Oceana
Hello, my name is Oceana, and I am a bilingual Mandarin speaker raised in Borneo, Malaysia. I attended a local school, where Mandarin was used daily in both academic and social settings. This foundation has given me strong fluency in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
I am currently an advanced Mandarin student in Australia and understand the expectations of the Australian curriculum. Because I have experienced learning Mandarin both in Asia and in Australia, I am able to support students who may find the language challenging or overwhelming. I understand the common difficulties students face and know how to explain concepts clearly and patiently.
I am responsible, organized, and committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. My goal is not only to improve grades, but to build long-term confidence and genuine understanding of the language.
I look forward to helping students grow in both skill and confidence.

My approach to tutoring is supportive, structured, engaging, and fun. Having attended a local school where Mandarin was part of everyday learning, I understand both conversational Mandarin and academic-style Mandarin. This allows me to help students not only memorise vocabulary, but truly understand how the language works.
In my lessons, I focus on:
1) Building strong foundations in pronunciation (pinyin and tones)
2) Expanding vocabulary through practical usage
3) Strengthening grammar through clear explanations and examples
4) Improving confidence in speaking, reading and writing
I adapt each lesson to the student’s level and goals.
For younger students, I use interactive activities and repetition techniques to make learning enjoyable and memorable.
For older students (Year 7–10), I focus more on structured grammar practice, reading comprehension, writing skills, and school assessment preparation.
A typical lesson runs for 60 minutes, which includes:
1) Review of previous content
2) Introduction of new material
3) Guided practice
4) Independent practice and feedback
Lessons can be adjusted to 30, 45, or 90 minutes depending on the student’s needs.
