About Michael
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University-San Marcos in southern California. The degree is in Literature and Writing with an emphasis on Writing. I wrote for the college newspaper and after graduation I wrote for entertainment magazines in the San Diego area. I have also worked as both a ghost writer and a technical writer.
I attained my black belt in Okinawan Gōjū-ryū when I was in my early twenties. This is a traditional karate style from Okinawa. I also have extensive training in Okinawan Kobodo, a traditional weapons style. Through years of training and instruction I am recognized as a fifth degree black belt by the International Association of Martial Artists headed by Grandmaster Gary Alexander. For most of my life I have used my training to teach my students in straightforward self-defense and awareness techniques.
My most valuable skill lies in my ability to break down subject matter in to understandable concepts; whether that subject matter is intellectual or physical, I can communicate efficient, step-by-step methods for consuming and utilizing the skills and information.

I assist my students with their diction and pronunciation. I expose them to American culture and current events. I help them to improve their English skills; both written and spoken. I will suggest literature and articles to enhance these skills.
I also instruct students in self-defense; both in mind and body. I train awareness techniques and simple habits to increase a "self-defense" mindset. I also teach easy-to-understand physical training that can distance my clients from a dangerous physical confrontation.

Details
The first one-hour lesson in free. The transportation fee is dependent on the distance that needs to be traveled, but it is just to cover the cost of gas and my time. $15 per hour fee is for online instruction. Private home instruction is $75 per 90 minutes, before travel expenses.
