About Guy
I'm a composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist based in Brighton, with twenty years working professionally in music. I've toured and recorded with artists, held jazz bar residencies, scored a documentary, and spent four years as head sound engineer at a live venue. I've taught privately since 2020 and give masterclasses at music studios, colleges and universities.
I teach because I remember what it was like to love music and not understand it. Most teaching hands you pieces to learn and rules to memorise. I'd rather show you how music actually works, at the keyboard, with sound attached, so you can play the things you love and start making things of your own. I use my own framework, the Musical Theory of Relativity, to make harmony something you can hear and use rather than memorise.
I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and teach adults and teenagers, online and in person.

I teach people to play, and I teach them to understand what they're playing so they can do something creative with it.
If you're a complete beginner, we start at the keyboard with real music from the first lesson, building technique, reading and confidence at a pace that suits you. If you already play, we work on whatever is holding you back: improvising, playing by ear, writing your own songs, or finally making sense of chords and keys. Either way the goal is the same. Not just playing pieces, but being able to sit down and make music.
Every lesson is built around you and the music you want to play or write. For beginners that means hands on the keys straight away, learning songs you like while the technique builds underneath. For more experienced players we might work through voicings, pull apart a song you love to see why it works, or build a progression of your own from scratch. Understanding always comes with sound attached, and you leave each session with something concrete to practise.
Lessons are one hour, online worldwide or in person in Brighton, for adults and teenagers from complete beginner to advanced. I offer single lessons or a twelve-week plan with a held weekly slot and a clear goal to work towards. We start with a free twenty-minute call so I can hear what you're after.
