About Hao

Hi, I am Hao.

I am a PhD candidate in Human-Computer Interaction at Swinburne University of Technology. In my PhD, I design and build exercise technology for older adults, working closely with health professionals. I test it with residents in real aged care settings and analyse the data I collect.

During my Master of Philosophy in Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, I learnt to design, build and evaluate interactive systems and games. At Xiamen University, I studied digital media art and then digital media technology, and learnt programming and interaction design. I also worked as a software engineer on robot control systems.

I have taught programming and game design at universities in Melbourne and Hong Kong. I hold a current Victorian Working with Children Check, and I teach in English and Mandarin.

I help you reach your own programming goals and write code with confidence.

Maybe you are preparing for VCE Software Development or Algorithmics. Maybe you are starting programming at university, or learning to code for fun. We start with where you are and what you need.

Each lesson is 60 minutes. I explain one idea. We try it together. Then you solve a problem on your own.

Younger students who enjoy games can learn by making their own games in C#. By the end of every lesson, they have something they can play.

For school-assessed tasks, I help you understand the requirements and practise the same skills on similar problems.

I teach online by default. I can also teach in person in Melbourne's inner east, with a parent at home.

Details

Lessons are 60 minutes. Online lessons are $75 per hour, and in-person lessons in Melbourne's inner east are $90 per hour, including a $15 travel fee. The first 30-minute lesson is free, and we use it to set goals and check your current level. Packs of 5 lessons ($356) and 10 lessons ($675) are valid until the end of the school term in which they are bought. Payment is due before each lesson or when a pack is bought. Please give at least 24 hours' notice to reschedule. Late cancellations and missed lessons are charged in full, with one free late change per term. For students under 18, a parent or guardian books and pays, and all messages include the parent.
