About Derek
As a first-year undergraduate student at Northwestern University pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, I am deeply passionate about sharing my love for science and mathematics with my peers. Although relatively early in my academic journey, I possess a strong foundation in these subjects and am excited to leverage my knowledge to assist fellow students.
I am dedicated to providing guidance and support to my peers in understanding complex concepts in chemistry, physics, and mathematics. I understand how difficult it can be to get students to study extra as my parents struggled to get me to put in extra effort into academics outside of school. I think this attitude is especially prevalent among middle and high school students and my lesson plans include several breaks for the student to rest and reset their mind. I also take the time to get to know my students because I believe developing a personal connection is important to incentivize the student to want to learn. A normal lesson will consist of a short period of teaching content, followed by examples to ensure engagement, and then a period at the end to review.
