About Leah
Currently a teaching and learning assistant at a secondary school in North London, specialising in working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Autism (ASD). I have 4 years' experience in working at Pre-school, Primary, Secondary. This includes teaching and tutoring at an international school in France. I have a thorough understanding of the national curriculum and I am enthusiastic in encouraging students to achieve their full potential. I studied History at the University of Hull, where I achieved a First Class BA.

I keep my classes engaging by ensuring I differentiate the classwork to meet the needs of the individual. I take a creative and engaging teaching approach with my lessons, using different mediums to support the students learning that matches their learning style e.g. using poetry to teach subjects like Science/History.
I usually take trial lessons with students and see their different and individual approaches to learning and what type of learners they are e.g. if they are auditory, visual or verbal learners etc. Based on this I then create lesson plans for them and understand the ways in which I can tutor them.
My aim for lessons ranges from 60 mins (Minimum) to 1.5 hours (Maximum). If I have sessions for Exam Prep and Tests, I can go up to 2 hours per session.
I tailor sessions around objectives in the Education and Health Care Plan and Individual Education Plan, if appropriate.
Through my experience and training I have gained an in-depth understanding of specific learning differences, including ASD, ADHD and Learning Difficulties, and the structured interventions and strategies which can be used to support students.
When working with students my aim is to boost their confidence, and in turn their ability, through friendly, patient and creative tutoring.
I have experience of setting up and delivering interventions e.g. zones of regulation, Communication and Interaction, and emotional regulation, to support the learning and emotional welfare of the students.
