The direct method is a way of presenting the Foreign Languages course in which the teacher directly uses the foreign language as the language of instruction, and without using the students' language in teaching. When students have difficulty understanding the word, teachers can interpret the words using props. In this method, during the teaching process, the teacher uses the language that is taught, while the students' language should not be used. Steps of learning the English language by the direct method, namely: selecting the appropriate theme for the students' skill level, then the teachers say the words or phrases that correspond to the level of their ability to use props when necessary. This method is based on understanding, teaching a foreign language that is not the same as teaching science or natural sciences. When teaching science, students must be able to memorize certain formulas, thinking and remembering, in language teaching, students / students are trained to directly practice certain words or phrases. Even when the words or phrases are initially unfamiliar and the students do not understand, but gradually the words and phrases also mean the meaning.
