About Alice
I’m Alice, I’m an 18-year-old girl based near Brighton (BN5 area). I have just taken Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths A levels and achieved 4A*. I am currently on a gap year and working for the school I studied at, as a tutor for A level and GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Maths, then in September I will start at Barts and The London medical school. I really enjoy learning and am passionate about my subjects. I love trying to really understand a subject and be able to have discussions about them. I’ve enjoyed helping the students at my school better understand their subjects and have seen really good results from my tutoring. My aim is to help other students gain confidence and reach their best in a subject, and hopefully enjoy it as well.

I want to help students to be passionate about a subject even if they don’t consider it to be a strong subject of theirs. I think the best way of learning is understanding a subject as this helps students to find their own way of working through questions and having their own perspective on a topic which can make the subject much more enjoyable and help to increase motivation. I will help students to understand the basic concepts of a subject, going through it in a way that suits their learning method (such as flash cards, mind maps, multiple choice, testing them on relevant specification points or just explaining concepts they find trickier) then work through past papers giving them a chance to apply their knowledge and learn how to perform in an exam. Knowing what the mark scheme wants is often the trickiest part of a science-based subject so by working through past papers together I aim to give students the confidence and the technique to score highly and reach their full potential. I am currently taking a year out and am working as a tutor in a private school in Sussex, I am tutoring A level and GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Maths, and have gained a lot of experience through this. I can offer tutoring sessions in A level Biology, Maths and Chemistry and GCSE science too (including physics GCSE). I’ll offer sessions of 30 minutes and longer. Having just completed Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths A level as well as tutoring now as a job, I have gained in experience in what learning methods worked best for me and what works well for other students. Something I learnt during my revision is the importance of revising efficiently, the high content of A level subjects often means that it's difficult to learn it all in as much detail as you may want. Knowing how to learn content in an effective and less time-consuming way as well as which parts were important to really focus on really helped me to feel confident about my subjects. I would love to use this experience to help others improve their grades.
