About Frances
I myself went to Hunter High in New York City, then to Berkeley, and then got an MA at Brandeis in English and Greek. I immediately began to teach at BU.In Greek and English. So I have been through so much with all these classes and teachers and an attempt to really learn myself, that it is natural to give it back. The point of teaching is to take the student from point A to point B and develop as much self criticism and self judgement. No one is ever afraid of me. I myself speak fluent French, German, Italian and parts of other languages. My first novel has been published in France and The US with enormous reviews in Le Monde and The New York Times Book Review and all over both places. My emphasis is on really helping the student from wherever they are as I have had enormous help myself

My lessons are designed to enable the student to really do whatever they want to or need to in English. If they want to learn to simply write in a coherent, legible way I gear that to them as quickly as possible. Using Socratic or natural methods of question and answer and heavy rewriting wherever its weak. With creative writing, I really get them to express whatever it is they want to do, which ranges from sensitive literature, to drama, to magazine writing, etc. Each has his specific reason for writing and the point is to get him to do that. It is heavily socratic, relying on the students ability to judge and criticize his own work. Everyone progresses. One student of mine in Venice was a diplomat. After two weeks, he could communicate with Russia on the phone,etc. I guess the point is self expression,
