About Roy
I’m a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in Physics (Hook ’em!), and a researcher working on experimental and theoretical physics. I’m also an experienced educator, with years of tutoring students as well as coaching Taekwondo.
I currently work as an undergraduate physics TA at UT, and over the years I’ve worked with many students who feel overwhelmed by math. I understand that struggle, and I know how to make difficult concepts intuitive. My teaching philosophy is simple: real success comes from understanding, not memorization. Instead of just showing you how to “plug and chug,” I help you learn the ideas behind each problem so you can tackle new questions with confidence. You’ll learn the techniques, but also why they work.
I offer SAT math tutoring sessions at an affordable price. Using the methods I developed to raise my own score from the mid-500s to a 790 (99th percentile) in under three months, I’ll teach you the problem solving habits and critical thinking strategies that helped me earn straight A’s at UT Austin in physics and engineering.

Classes are held online via Google Meet or Zoom.
Before each session, the student will receive a customized set of practice problems, either topic-specific or general, based on their needs and preferences. For example, some students may only need help with algebra, while others struggle with SAT Math as a whole. I tailor the material accordingly so every session is meaningful and efficient.
A typical lesson is structured as follows:
First 20 minutes: We review how the student approached each problem, identifying strengths, strategies, and misconceptions.
Next 30 minutes: I teach the underlying mathematical concepts, provide intuitive explanations, walk through key problem solving techniques, and share useful tips and tricks for the SAT.
Final 10 minutes: The student can ask questions about anything from the session, or even related topics from high school math or physics. I’m happy to answer these with no extra charge!
I firmly believe every student can succeed on the SAT. Some people are naturally good test takers; others (like me) need training and strategy. The skills, methods, and mindset I developed to raise my own score will help guide you to reach your full potential on the SAT!
