About Reoat Alemayehu
I’m Reoat, a mechanical engineering student at Rice University specializing in aerospace engineering. Before transferring to Rice, I studied at Texas A&M University, where I earned a 4.0 GPA.
I grew up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and have been tutoring privately for two years. Math and physics are the tools I use every day. I’ve applied them during an internship at Ethiopian Airlines’ aircraft maintenance facility, in thermal energy research at Rice, and in leading a student team that is building an autonomous glider.
I know how it feels to be stuck on a concept, and I know how much a clear explanation can help. I’m patient, I come to every session prepared, and I care about my students’ progress. I’ll always be honest with you about what’s going well and what needs more practice.

My goal is for you to understand why a method works, not just memorize the steps. I start by finding out where you are: what feels solid, where you get stuck, and how you like to learn. From there I explain each idea in plain language, work through an example with you, and then have you solve problems while I guide you. When you can explain a concept back to me in your own words, we move on.
A typical one-hour lesson:
Quick check-in on homework, upcoming tests, or questions from class
A short warm-up problem to see what has stuck since last time
The new concept, explained with a worked example
Guided practice, where you solve and I coach
A recap and a few practice problems to try before the next session
I’m a mechanical engineering student at Rice University, so I use math and physics every day and can show you where they come up in real engineering. I also speak English and Amharic, so I can explain ideas in either language when that helps.
My lessons are for middle school, high school and early college students in algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus and physics. I can help with homework support, test preparation, or building a stronger foundation.
