About Alec
I am a Canadian percussionist based in South-East London currently holding the position of Percussion Fellow with the Southbank Sinfonia. I hold a Master's Degree with honors from the Bob Cole Conservatory in Long Beach, California, as well as a Bachelor's Degree (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Ottawa in Canada.
I have taught drum corps and band percussion masterclasses in primary and secondary schools, as well as teaching adult and senior private students both in-person and virtually via Zoom.
As a performer, I've appeared with some of the world's best orchestras including the Beijing Symphony and the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and have performed as a soloist and chamber musician with a wide variety of ensembles ranging from percussion ensembles to choirs and mixed-instrumental groups. I have a drum kit at home where I can host lessons if preferred by the student.

Music is fun, so why not learn one of the most exciting instruments?
I have three years of experience teaching students ranging from primary school age to adult, and have taught both in one-to-one lesson and group masterclass settings.
Each lesson is tailored to the needs of the student, whether they want to play for fun or are preparing for exams.
My lessons are dynamic and engage the students, making sure that they spend as much time as possible in lessons playing and exploring the capability of the instrument. I use a practice pad in lessons so that I can play along with students when demonstrating techniques.
I am also experienced creating alternative playing techniques to make percussion accessible for students with disabilities.
I can prepare students for ABRSM exams and post-secondary entrance auditions. If preferred, I can also give the lesson in French.
