I built a career working professionally in kitchens for years before shifting toward teaching, and that culinary background still shapes almost everything about how I run a lesson today. Grammar gets taught through recipe instructions and food writing, since imperative structures and sequencing language come up constantly and naturally in this kind of material. I encourage students to describe dishes, flavors, and food memories from their own culture, building genuine, personal speaking practice rather than generic scripted topics nobody actually cares about. Listening practice sometimes uses cooking videos and food shows, exposing students to natural, conversational French wrapped around something genuinely enjoyable to watch together. I keep lessons warm and a little informal, closer to chatting in a kitchen than sitting in a classroom, because that relaxed atmosphere genuinely helps nervous students open up. Cultural context around food and dining etiquette gets real attention too, since that knowledge matters enormously when traveling or socializing abroad. Every lesson leaves students hungry and fluent.
