I had 3 students in the programming course for Java, and they all passed these courses with grades B- and above. I don't have much tutoring experience for Matlab but it would not be a problem since the logic is very similar with java and other programming languages. I passed these courses with an A- grade.

I think the most useful method learning is by explaining the commands and data types used in programming and then starting to code directly on the computer. Programming languages can often be very abstract in the mind when learning, so I believe that the healthiest learning can be achieved by constantly writing codes and practicing.
