About William
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Bard College. My senior thesis explored the relationship between an individual's identity and the larger communities that legitimize and consume the identities that we project for the world, drawing on the writing of Jacques Derrida and Jean-Paul Sartre. I have five years of experience working with students. As a tutor, I understand that there are many different modes of learning, and I will work to make sure that we develop strategies that help you succeed!
I am originally from San Francisco, and when I am not philosophizing you can find me hiking, camping, or performing in a play!

I start with with the concept that philosophical arguments are often structured uniquely in comparison to writing in other fields -- therefore, it's important that we learn how to read and write specifically for philosophy! Depending on the student's needs and priorities, we can spend more time on reading comprehension or developing original philosophical arguments, but at the core one thing remains central: strengthening the student's ability to locate the central thesis of a text and the arguments and rhetorical styles which the author (perhaps themselves) uses to prove their thesis. This one skill will propel us towards the ability to both write and read philosophy in a variety of genres!
I am able to adjust my teaching style for a variety of skill levels and ages ranging from middle school through undergrad. I meet students where they are at. Whether you are majoring in continental philosophy or need some help with an introductory class, I am here to assist!
