About Barry
I taught at Rice University in Houston, Texas for nearly 20 years. My local field courses at Rice were among some of the most popular classes at the school as was a summer tropical rainforest biology course that I taught in both Mexico and Panama.
Since 2014 I have lived in Mexico in order to explore the marvelous biological diversity there. I not only explore the diversity but document it through photography on iNaturalist (bsullend). Biology is not just my profession, it is my passion!

I love organisms, but also have an extensive background in molecular evolution. I also love and follow developments in paleontology, geology, astronomy, and even quantum field theory.
