About Yana
I'm a sixth form student attending St Paul's Girls' School in West London.
I'm also a Teaching Assistant at a tutoring company for 11+ (for a lovely class of Year 4s) and I have also privately tutored Year 4 and Year 5 girls in English and Maths.
I got all 9s in my GCSES (equivalent of A** in the new system). I like to think it was through a combination of 'smart revision' and ambition rather than sheer grit, so I'd love to share the techniques I've learnt with others. I also took Additional Mathematics (FSMQ), so happy to teach that as well.
I'm currently taking Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Philosophy and Economics.

I have tutored Year 4s and Year 5s before.
For new skills, I would start off with a worked example to make sure the student is certain of the underlying principles. I don't think students have to fully 'get' a topic before plunging into it on their own; I think the 'aha' moments come at various points in the learning process.
For weaknesses, I would start off with a student doing a question of their own. Being a student myself, I do understand that so-called weaknesses can be a source of discomfort. My aim is to identify what might be going wrong quickly and painlessly - which I know maths sometimes isn't!
For English, I focus on learning techniques and vocabulary expansion. Many students misunderstand what a question is asking, rather than have an inability to answer the question. I aim to provide a thorough framework which students can use to answer comprehension questions.
