• When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

  I started playing drums when I was 6 years old.

• Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

  Any rock, blues or metal. I love listening to all sorts of music though. I feel you can learn somthing from so many different genres.

• Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

  My teaching focuses on each individual student, so I feel the most difficult or riveting course will be the one that is created for the individual student by myself.

• What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

  In terms of contempoary music, I feel that drums are the most complicated instrument. This is because, as a drummer, we have to keep time for the whole band, whether it be a three piece function band or a fifteen piece big band.

• What are your keys to success?

  Setting short and long term goals, and developing a consistent practice routine.

• Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

  Ray Luzier (Drummer for Korn). Joe Bonamassa and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters). I feel each of these people would have so much educational and personal knowledge to share.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

  Whilst studying at the ACM Guildford I arrived at a performance exam to find that one of the examiners was Eddy Thower (Lower Than Atlantis), as you can imagine I was already very nervous, but having to be graded by such a well known and respected drummer definitely put the pressure on even further. He was really nice though, and made a joke about me going to get him a coffee, I responded to this by joking that if he graded me a first I definitely would. We all had a laugh about this and it helped with my nerves a bit!

• What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

  A life time of learning, gigging and studio experience. Private tution from Robert Brian (Simple Minds, Siouxsie Sioux, Hugh Cornwell), Darren Beckett (The Killers, Brandon Flowers) and Pete Riley (Rhythm Mag; Writer and Editor) to name a few. A BA Hons Degree in Music Industry Practice (specialising in drums), an extended Diploma in Music Technology and real world experice of recording and mixing / mastering.
