About İlayda

I lived my entire life in Istanbul, Turkey, before moving to Montreal to pursue a business degree at university. As a newcomer, I’ve faced the challenge of adapting to French being used in daily life. Although my studies continue in English—a language I’ve spoken fluently my whole life—my experience learning French has given me a unique perspective on the journey of acquiring a new language, much like you are embarking on with Turkish.

Growing up in Turkey, I taught English to preschool and primary school students, which honed my ability to simplify complex language concepts and make lessons engaging. This background in teaching English has significantly enriched my approach to teaching Turkish, enabling me to create lessons that are clear, fun, and effective for beginners.

About the class

As a tutor for beginner-level Turkish learners, I focus on creating an immersive, practical, and engaging environment that helps students grasp the basics of the language while developing confidence in their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Here’s how I approach teaching Turkish to beginners:

Teaching Methodology and Techniques
Immersive Experience: I use simple Turkish phrases from the start, gradually introducing vocabulary and sentence structures so students get used to hearing and using the language.
Practical Language Use: I emphasize practical, everyday language that students can immediately use in real-life situations, such as greetings, ordering food, asking for directions, and small talk.
Visual and Interactive Methods: I incorporate flashcards, images, and interactive activities like role-playing to make lessons more engaging and memorable.
Cultural Insights: Learning a language is tied to understanding the culture. I integrate cultural elements to enrich the experience and give context to the language.
Personal Touch: I tailor lessons to each student’s interests and goals, whether they want to learn Turkish for travel, personal connections, or academic purposes.

Who the lessons are for?
Absolute Beginners: People who have no prior knowledge of Turkish and want to start with the basics.
Casual Learners: Those who are learning Turkish for fun, travel, or to connect with Turkish-speaking friends or family.
Young Learners or Adults: The lessons can be tailored to different age groups, making the learning experience suitable for both children and adults.
