About Amy
I am a microbiology student with an indisputable enthusiasm for biology and teaching. I understand just how daunting biology can seem - with such a vast amount of content to understand in such a short time it can seem impossible! However, personally, I find biology less of a memory game and more like a giant jigsaw. When teaching biology, I take the same approach to solving a jigsaw. We start with the basics (the edge pieces) so we have a clear foundation to build from, and the more we work together, the more pieces we can fit together to build the entire picture. Not only is it imperative to me that the student understands my goals for our sessions, but also that we work towards their own personal goals for these lessons. My lessons are engaging, supportive, and unique to each student in order to leave them with a comprehensive understanding of biology so they can become the brilliant scientist I know they will be!

Every student has a unique technique to learning, therefore it is imperative for me to understand the methods that will work best in order for my students to excel. This may be in the form of activities such as workshops whereby the lesson is half theory and half questions, or even walking-talking mocks. I find that 1 hour sessions are the most effective in order to maintain focus and engagement without it becoming overwhelming. I have tutored biology for 2 years (achieving an A in A level biology myself) at both GCSE and A level covering a wide range of exam boards. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and aim to ensure each student performs to the best of their abilities!
