It is I: Matthew the Great! An engineering student with a Cambridge International education, teaching high school mathematics and physical science.

As Head Boy, Matthew, with his strong, warm presence, his people skills and his sensitivity, shone, and made me (his aunt and a retired high school teacher), enormously proud. His clarity of insight into others and where they are coming from, his exquisite empathy, his incisive logic and his no-nonsense commitment — balanced by his ease and sense of playfulness — enable him to draw out the natural intelligence and gifts of his students, making them confident and open to understanding material that could appear, at first, to be threatening. He guides and coaxes, without taking over or being condescending. He has a unique skill of ushering his students through various thought processes, so that they become empowered and increasingly autonomous and in command. He paces his lessons in such a way that his students are stimulated but not overwhelmed, and that gives them the vital and empowering experience of figuring things out for themselves. Matthew has impeccable integrity, and profound respect for others, making him not only an excellent tutor but also a wonderful role model who has the maturity, sensitivity and insight to understand and support his students emotionally and spiritually.
