About Ellie
I’ve been tutoring math since I was in high school myself, and all these years later, my favorite moment is still the same: when a student who was completely confused suddenly says, “Ohhh! I get it!”
I love figuring out exactly where a student got lost and finding the explanation that makes everything click. Sometimes that means drawing a picture, sometimes it means backing up a few steps, and sometimes it means coming up with a memorable analogy that makes a complicated idea suddenly feel simple.
Over the years, I’ve worked with countless students one-on-one, including more than 800 hours of private tutoring through an online tutoring platform alone. I also became a public school math teacher in Los Angeles, where I taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and other middle and high school math courses. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, a Bachelor's degree in Education, and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts.
My tutoring style is part math coach, part confidence-builder. My goal is to help students stop feeling like math is a form of punishment and start feeling like it’s something they can actually understand and work with.
We build intuition, stack skills like tools in a toolbox, and figure out how your brain makes sense of problems—not just the textbook version.
I also take “no question is a dumb question” very seriously. Tutoring is the perfect place to ask all the questions you might not feel comfortable asking in a classroom. We can slow things down, untangle confusing concepts, fill in missing pieces, and rebuild confidence from the ground up.
I’m a big believer that math sticks better when it has a little personality. I use memory tricks, visual models, real-life examples, and memorable explanations—including my “wedding cake method”—to make abstract concepts easier to understand and remember.
If my first explanation doesn’t make sense, that’s okay. I’ll find another way to explain it.
