About Yulian
I have two years of teaching experience at the Toronto Metropolitan University where I taught 4 classes of 1st year incoming students. The courses I taught were on Critical Thinking, and I had between 15-20 students per class. I was working under a professor who taught the course who handed down his wisdom, and devised weekly lesson plans, reviews, and practice quizzes for my students. I knew all of their names by heart (many of the other TA’s did not) and I established a professional yet friendly like relationship with my students so that it did not give off a display of power dynamic, but to show that we are equals in the learning process as we worked on solving problems together as opposed to me giving them the question and them answering on their own. My classes averaged with A’s at the end of the course.

I like to incorporate my students in the lessons, as opposed to the traditional student sitting silently listening to their teacher ramble on. My lessons will include reciprocal games, activities, visual aids, and topics that students enjoy in their daily life so that they will have more fun learning. For example, when I was teaching my little brother how to read, I would choose books on whales because he loved whales, and that made him more interested in the process!
