About Carol

This is Mrs. C, The Innovative Tutor. As an educator with over 35 years of experience, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of education firsthand. Whether in a traditional classroom or a homeschool setting, my passion lies in opening doors for students—especially in the realms of English, reading, and math. Math Education: Foundation Matters: Our students deserve a solid foundation in mathematics. Concepts like counting money, multiplication, and numerical relationships are essential life skills. Back to Basics: Let’s return to the fundamentals. By emphasizing number sense, problem-solving, and critical thinking, we empower students to succeed academically and beyond. The Magic of Reading: Worlds Within Pages: Reading isn’t just about decoding words; it’s about exploring new worlds. When we read, we travel, empathize, and expand our horizons. Gateway Skill: Reading is the gateway to all other subjects—math, science, history, and more. It’s the skill that impacts every aspect of life. The 4 R’s of Education: Reading: The cornerstone. Cultivating strong reading skills ensures that students can access knowledge independently. 'Riting: Effective communication—both written and verbal—is crucial. 'Rithmetic: Math proficiency opens doors to problem-solving and logical thinking. Research: Encouraging curiosity and critical inquiry prepares students for a dynamic world. Holistic Growth: Academic Excellence: Yes, but let’s also nurture their minds, spirits, and bodies. Well-Rounded Individuals: Our goal? To create well-rounded individuals who thrive in all aspects of life. In this journey of education, we’re not just imparting knowledge; we’re shaping lifelong learners. My teaching experience is as follows: Grade Levels Taught: Advanced K5 1st through 6th grade (phonics, reading, and math program) 3rd, 4th, & 5th grades 7th - 8th grade (math, Algebra 1 and 2, Consumer Math, Geometry, Speech, Typing, Shorthand, and Spanish 1) 7th - 12th grade (English and Speech) Remedial College English College English Grammar & Composition 101 & 102 History of Civilization 101 and 102 American Government 201 & 202 Teaching Materials & Methods Teaching Reading Teaching Language Teaching Math Teaching Physical Education Educational Practicum Student Teaching In addition, I taught for 3 1/2 years at the college level for a small college as the director of their education department. I have already taught a K3-4 & K5 Phonics and reading class and 1st & 2nd grade reading, and I am presently teaching several sections of Remedial English: Mastering the Fundamental Concepts. My desire and goal are to help our young people learn how to master these basic concepts that have slipped by them genuinely. I am a grandmother of three beautiful little girls and 2 handsome little boys, the mother of 2 handsome sons, the mother-in-love to 2 beautiful daughters-in-love, the wife of a most attractive and wonderful husband, and the daughter of the original teacher, my mother.

I am a retired school teacher of 30+ years. I also homeschooled both of our sons from K2 through 12th grade. I have taught from K5 through 12th grade, plus 3 1/2 years at a private college. I believe in a structured lesson when teaching to multiple students at a time, but when teaching individuals I attempt to set a plan that is best suited to them. I try to use innovative methods for instruction. I have taught many autistic students and other learning disabilities. A typical lesson plan is from 25 to 50 minutes. The student will have a quick skills enrichment drill, 10 to 15 minutes of instruction (25 min. class), and student interaction of procedures. I teach Elementary Arithmetic (1st - 6th grade), Intermediate Math, pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Consumer Math, Phonics, Reading and Comprehension, Elementary and High School English, College English, Elementary and High School History: Old and New World Geography and History, U.S. History, Constitutional History, American Government, Civics (your state), and Civil War and Reconstruction. My lessons are for K5 through 12th grade. I have taught with VIPKids for 6 years and Outschool for 5 years.
