About Ikenna
Hello, I'm Ikenna, a UK based tutor and law graduate.
Maths has always come naturally to me. I achieved a grade 8 in GCSE Maths, and my wider academic record includes 6 A* grades at GCSE and a 2:1 in Law from the University of Portsmouth. I am now studying for my LLM at the University of Law.
I started tutoring online in 2023 and have since delivered over 300 one to one lessons across English, Maths and Humanities through GoStudent, MyTutor and Varsity Tutors. I achieved a 78% trial to client conversion rate, largely because I spend the first lesson finding exactly where a pupil is stuck and giving parents a clear plan.
Many pupils who struggle with maths are not bad at it. They have usually missed a step somewhere, lost confidence, and started to believe maths is just not for them. What I enjoy most is rebuilding that confidence, one method at a time, until a topic that once felt impossible starts to make sense.
My background in law has made me good at breaking complicated problems into logical steps and explaining them clearly and patiently. I use that approach in every maths lesson, so pupils understand why a method works, not just how to follow it.

My approach
I believe any pupil can make real progress in maths once the gaps are found and the foundations are secure. That is why my first lesson is a relaxed assessment. I find out which topics your child finds difficult, where their confidence dips and what they are working towards, then build a personalised plan and share it with parents.
My teaching is based on understanding, not memorising. I explain why a method works, not just the steps to follow, because pupils who understand the reasoning remember it and can apply it to unfamiliar questions. I break every topic into small, logical steps and move on only when each one is secure.
A typical lesson
A short warm up to recap previous topics and keep skills fresh
A clear focus for the session, such as fractions, algebra, ratio or problem solving
A worked example on the shared whiteboard, where I talk through each step and why it works
Guided practice, working through questions together and correcting mistakes as they happen
Independent practice, gradually building to exam style questions
A quick check of understanding and a short task to consolidate before the next lesson
What makes my lessons different
Mistakes are treated as useful information, not failures, so pupils feel comfortable asking questions
Exam pupils learn how to read questions carefully, show their working and pick up method marks
Regular recaps of older topics so knowledge sticks rather than fading after a test
Past papers and mark schemes used for exam preparation, so pupils know exactly what examiners reward
