About Brian
I am a Business Information Technology student studying at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, VA. Teaching is an area where I am very comfortable in having individually tutored 5 different students through a program called Homeworker Helpers. I have also shadowed a teacher in the local elementary school in Richmond, VA which acquainted me with classroom dynamics, how to inspire students, and it sparked a passion for wanting to share my knowledge with students. Teaching multiple students offers an interesting teaching practice, but in my experience it is easier to see the growth of students in an individual setting. A good example of this was when I had weekly sessions with a student of mine named Eric, whose math grade improved 12% during and after my lessons with him. Whether it is individuals or groups, I enjoy seeing growth and improvement through my teachings.

My teaching method is one where I try to inspire and encourage the students to enjoy the topic that they're studying, so their work doesn't seem as much like work as it does an activity that they can have satisfaction from accomplishing. I've taught in many areas including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Earth Science, and many social studies classes. I build a relationship with my students and from there I can more easily teach them and they respect me more as a teacher or tutor.
