About Justin
Hi, I’m Justin, a University of Toronto Honours graduate with majors in Philosophy, History and Political Science. I have approximately 15 years of tutoring experience, including experience as a philosophy tutor at the University of Toronto. I specialize in English, essay writing, reading comprehension, grammar and critical thinking for middle school, high school, college and university students. I especially enjoy helping students who have good ideas but need help organizing them into clear, well-supported paragraphs and essays. My teaching style is patient, encouraging and conversational, while still challenging students to improve. I adapt my approach to each student’s individual needs and goals. I’m currently accepting new students for online lessons and would be happy to discuss how I can help.

Each lesson is personalized to the student’s level, needs, and academic goals. I work with middle school, high school, college, and university students on reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, paragraph and essay writing, literary analysis, and critical thinking. Lessons are structured and practical. Depending on the student’s needs, we may analyze a reading passage, strengthen grammar and vocabulary, develop ideas, or work step-by-step on a paragraph or essay. I teach students how to organize their thoughts, support their arguments with evidence, and communicate their ideas clearly. My goal is not simply to correct a student’s work, but to help them understand how to improve independently. Students receive clear, encouraging feedback, and lessons build progressively as their skills develop. Whether a student is struggling with English or already doing well and wants to reach a higher level, I adjust the difficulty and approach to provide the right amount of challenge.
