About Charlotte

My path into biology started in the French system in London, where I went to school from nursery to sixth form and took my baccalauréat with a specialism in biology. I then did my higher education here in the UK, so I know both curriculums as a student rather than just as a teacher.

I studied Biology with Psychology at Queen Mary University of London, returned for an MSc in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and spent several years working as a research technician in a bumblebee behaviour lab. I co-authored two peer-reviewed papers along the way, one of them in Nature.

Research taught me to sit with a problem rather than rush past it, and to trust evidence over assumption. Those are the habits I try to pass on, as much as the content itself.

I have also completed physical and mental health first aid training. I am not a counsellor, but I know when something is getting in the way of the learning, and I would rather raise it than push on regardless.

About the class

Before lessons start I ask for the exam board, the current topic and any recently marked work. The preparation is about finding the best way for us to work together.

Lessons run for an hour, which I find is long enough to get properly into something without anyone losing concentration. I am happy to do longer sessions closer to exams if that suits.

I have two degrees in biology from Queen Mary University of London, first in Biology with Psychology, then an MSc in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I spent several years as a research technician in a bumblebee behaviour lab, where part of my role was training new students and visiting researchers one to one, and I co-authored two peer-reviewed papers, one of them in Nature. I have tutored on and off since 2009.

I teach biology at GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, IB and undergraduate level, and I am strongest on ecology, evolution, animal behaviour, genetics and physiology.

I am also bilingual, so I can teach biology in French if that would suit a student better.
