It’s really quite simple. I believe, with all my heart, that everyone—no matter your race or background—should learn Chinese. Speaking Chinese isn’t just wonderful or magical; it’s fast becoming an essential skill. But here’s what I truly care about: standard pronunciation. To learn Chinese is to learn its clearest, most accurate sounds. Yes, the Chinese language level in Malaysia is generally very good, but to be honest, our pronunciation often leaves native speakers struggling to understand. I’ve lived in Taiwan for many years, yet even as a child in Malaysia, I was always serious about getting the tones right. In Taiwan, I even studied at CTS—華視電視台-the Chinese Television System—to master standard Mandarin pronunciation, that course was a key part of training for drama dubbing, where every tone and syllable must be perfectly clear. That’s the standard I believe in.. Now, I want to see our Malaysian Chinese children start speaking standardized Mandarin from the very beginning. We all need to make this a priority together.
