About Jakob
Hi, I'm Jakob. I'm a first year Geology PhD researcher Imperial College London, looking at soft tissue preservation in marine invertebrates. I have aided teaching in various STEM subjects since 2018, including Maths, Chemistry and Biology to a GCSE standard and Chemistry, Biology and Geology to an A Level standard, as well as a variety of undergraduate modules.
I have delivered teaching both virtually and in-person.

I am a passionate tutor, with a focus on student-led learning and interactivity. I aim to build strong foundations in independent and critical thinking, using materials tailored to specific topics and students. Lessons will typically be 1-2 hours (longer sessions can be requested). Materials will be carefully prepared prior to the class, and will generally compromise a mix of presentation, quizzes and questions sheets (which will also constitute homework). Materials are shared with the students so they can ensure they understand the topic and can develop questions a their own pace.
I aim to develop students understanding via problem solving and application rather then rote learning and memorisation , using examples and questions to teach. I hope to foster an educational environment which is supportive and welcoming to ensure all individuals feel comfortable and able to learn.
At A Level I achieved A* in A Level Geology, Chemistry and my EPQ focussing on mass extinction, and A in Biology. I achieved Level 9 in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology at GCSE. I graduated with a First Class (Hons) MSci degree in Geology from Imperial in June 2024.
